2016 Update

As you may have noticed, we're usually too busy to keep updating our blog.

I try, but there are so many things going on all of the time.

The best way to keep in touch with our day to day activities & any announcements about product, is to follow us on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Full-of-beans-Coffee-House-Roastery-174023849301137/?ref=bookmarks) or twitter (@fobroastery).

We still have our monthly art shows. We still host the Brockton Writers Series. Our monthly poetry group still meets here.... We're still doing all those things that make full of beans full of beans!

Keep in touch! We're going to be 6 in just a few days!!!!!

Where have we been?

It has been a LONG while since we've been in touch on our blog! What have we been doing? Roasting.... Roasting.... Roasting......

Happily, full of beans coffee is becoming more & more popular, so I've been having less & less time to be in touch this way.

But, we're still having our monthly Uke Jams. We still host the Brockton Writers Series (NOTE: the next one, September 9, celebrates its 6th year!!). Spillin' the Beans still happens once a month. The art is still being curated by Workman Arts & it is amazing every single time it changes!!!

Something that is different, though, is that now you can purchase our coffee at a market that has just opened at Roncesvalles & Dundas - Camaraderie Collective Artisan Market,  so if you are unable to make the trip to us at 1348 Dundas St. West, you can just pop in there! Every week, we feature a different coffee at the market & samples are available once a week. Visit their Facebook page to see when coffee is being sampled next! There's always something different happening there & it is an honour to have our coffee next to so many other talented artists!

Also, keep in mind that next month full of beans celebrates its FIFTH Anniversary! HOLY COW! Visit back here & our Facebook page to see what we'll be doing! There's going to be plenty of $5 dollar specials for a MONTH &, within that same time, is the Dundas West BIA's Sidewalk Sale! It's going to be a lot of fun & we really want to say thank you for keeping us here for all of these years!

March!

Into the second week of March & it's feeling pretty good, huh?

This month's art show, Kolagi Otomatiki, is by returning artist Gregg Allan McGivern.
This is another Workman Art's show and it runs for the entire month of March until April 8th.

This month's Uke Jam, hosted by Maia Waern returns the first day of Spring - Thursday, March 19th at 5 pm until 8 pm.
As usual, there will be ukuleles available if you don't have your own, songbooks to share & follow along, and full of beans will have all of its usual drinks & treats available.

Again, this is in conjunction with the Third Thursday (#3TDundasWest) evening happening along the Dundas Strip, between Ossington & Roncesvalles, so check out to see what other bars, restaurants & retail stores will be open late that night!

Spillin' the Beans returns on Saturday, March 21st, with a line up of some pretty great comics & our three contributors Renee Armando Payes, Peter Aterman & Dave Code. These three put a lot of work into this show (except for Peter ;)  ) and we have a lot of fun these evenings. Come by for this 7 pm show that we hold once a month!

February's Here!

We are certainly in the thick of winter now, huh? It's cold & snowy; slippery & windy.... We could complain but we'd rather just have fun!

This month's artist, Kate Gorman, is having the opening reception for her show, Symbolic Perspectives on Friday, February 6th, from 4 until 6 pm. Jace Traz will be the musician for the event & he will certainly spice things up in here. Symbolic Perspectives will be up for the entire month, so you'll have to stop in & see this great show!

This month's Uke Jam is being held on Thursday, February 19th, from 5 until 8 pm.

As usual, it will be lead by the always-smiling, Maia Waern, who will have ukuleles & songbooks available. Pop in at anytime to join in the strum circle. People of ALL ages are welcome!

Again, the Uke Jam is being held as part of Dundas West's Third Thursday event, being organized by Hermann & Audrey. Click on here as we approach the date, to see who else along Dundas West is participating by staying open late that night! You'll probably discover some stores that you've never seen before!

Spillin' the Beans will be held on Saturday, February 21st, starting at 7 pm & running until 8:30 pm. As the date nears, we will have the line-up of comics available, so stay tuned for another post later in the month!

It's a short month, but we've still managed to organize a few things to keep those smiles on during these cold days. We're more than half way through the winter, so that's another thing to smile about!

It's still January....

... and we're not done yet!
How could I forget to tell you about this month's Uke Jam????

This Thursday, as part of Dundas West's Third Thursday event, January 15th, Maia Waern is back, hosting the monthly Uke Jam. Ukulele's are available if you don't have one of your own & lots of song books are present, full of many, many favourites. It runs from 5 - 8 pm, but if you can't get here right at 5, that's fine. You can join in anytime!

Now we have to brag a little bit.

Just a few weeks ago, we were pleased to find full of beans included on Indie 88.1's list of Top Indie Coffee Shops! In their article, they included a beautiful photo of the coffee roaster, as well as a number of other great coffee houses in the different neighbourhoods of Toronto! Thanks Indie 88.1!!!

That's all for now! Thanks for reading!

January 7th - Another evening where we will be open late. The Brockton Writers Series is being held with a great line up of guests. January 10th - A Special Edition of Spillin' the Beans begins at 7:00 pm. One our dear comics, Dave Code, is celebrating his birthday and what better way to celebrate than to have everyone pick on you? This Edition of Spillin' the Beans is the Roast of Dave Code - the nicest guy in comedy -  but please be aware that this is NOT A KID FRIENDLY EVENT. Most of our comedy shows have some rules and restrictions, but for this one, all bets are off! The comics are going to have fun & will show no mercy. We've done roasts before & they are a blast, but ears beware!!!!!

This is just the first week of January at full of beans so keep checking back; there will be more!!!!!!

We're not done with November YET!

Before I let you know of what more we have in store for this last week of November, full of beans would first like to thank ALL of you for a couple of things.

Firstly, thank you to everyone who has made that EXTRA effort to visit us during these past weeks when there has been NO TTC Service along the strip of Dundas St. West from Spadina to Lansdowne. We know it has made it harder for you to make it here & we truly appreciate your continued support. Through sleet, rain & snow, you guys keep showing up & deserve an award!

Secondly, another HUGE thanks for voting for our Espresso in this year's NOW Top Picks!
full of beans' House Espresso Blend won the first Runner Up position for 2014 and it is all because you took the effort in voting for us online! That's fantastic! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
I will ensure that the House Espresso remains as yummy as it has always been & continue to ensure the freshness about which I am such a stickler.

Now..... On to the really fun stuff!!!!

Some of you may already know that we are now carrying more teas. If you don't; now you do. We have brought in two NEW tea lines - both are Toronto based companies & both are small batch blended, using natural ingredients, flavours & extracts. Pluck Tea is a small company, run by tea sommelier, Jennifer Commins. Her black teas & tisanes are full of ingredients that are locally sourced, upcycled & reused. Please, click on the link above to learn more about how she sources & blends her teas & then come here to try them & make them at home. Dandelion Sun Tea is the other line we are carrying & they are all wellness blends with special benefits & wonderful ingredients. This tea maker even makes the extracts used in her blends herself.
All of the teas that we carry, as before, are available by the cup or in 30gram packages & will make fantastic stocking stuffers or hostess gifts!
If that's not enough to tease you into trying them (did you see what I did there?), we will be sampling out the teas on a very special day!
Saturday, November 29th is the Yellow Pages Shop the Hood day! The Shop the Hood day is an initiative of the Yellow Pages, encouraging shoppers in keeping their purchases close to home. Of course, it's not just our customers who have to take some effort. So do we, the businesses.
As part of our participation, all day Saturday, November 29th, we will be sampling out our new tea collection so that you can see why we chose these great tea lines.
Don't forget, too, though, that same day will be our Kids' Open Stage, hosted by Maia Waern, so there's even more reason to wander in & say hello. Let your kids show their stuff!

Of course I am not done yet!

On Sunday, November 30th, full of beans will be hosting a Christmas Sale with goods
from local business, Stock In Trade. The sale will take place from 11 - 3 pm & is open to the public. The cafe & lounge will still be open for regular business; this is just another great way to get gift ideas & start crossing things off your lists.

I think that is just about everything that I can possibly squeeze into this month & I hope everyone enjoys what we've been doing.

Now it's time to start working on December huh?

Phew..... busy busy busy.......

A huge thank you to Cherie, at Beadle (http://www.beadlestore.com/) for taking this photo out front of the store! Looks great!
